Meta cracks down on teen “sextortion” on Facebook, Instagram

Teens will finally have a way to proactively stop the spread of intimate images.

Last year, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) released data showing that it received overwhelmingly more reports of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) from Facebook than any other web service it tracked. Where other popular social platforms like Twitter and TikTok had tens of thousands of reports, Facebook had 22 million.

Today, Facebook announced new efforts to limit the spread of some of that CSAM on its platforms. Partnering with NCMEC, Facebook is building a “global platform” to prevent “sextortion” by helping “stop the spread of teens’ intimate images online.”

“We’re working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to build a global platform for teens who are worried intimate images they created might be shared on public online platforms without their consent,” Antigone Davis, Facebook’s VP, global head of safety, said in a blog post on Monday.

This global platform for teens will work similarly to the platform that Meta created to help adults combat “revenge porn,” Davis said, which Facebook said last year was “the first global initiative of its kind.” It lets users generate a hash to proactively stop images from being distributed on Facebook and Instagram.

According to Davis, Meta found that more than 75 percent of the child exploitative content that proliferates on its platforms at rates that outpace other social media is posted by people “with no apparent intention of harm.” Instead, the CSAM gets shared to express outrage, disgust, or “poor humor,” Davis said.

Interesting comments to the article online that merit some reading and consideration because they are on it.

Amerika’s out-of-control, criminal big governments have their Hate Lists and they encourage all companies, organizations, and people to idiotically harass the people and families who are listed. There is no reason for Facebook (Meta/whatever) to try to exclude PFRs from using their services. It’s idiotic and it doesn’t improve the safety of anyone. They do it because they are weak, PC-licking assholes.

So, f*ck Facebook and scum like them. I think it is hilarious that they have so miserably failed with regard to CSAM. According to the NCMEC fleecers, Facebook is by far the worst. So, great job!

I feel bad for the people affected by their incompetence, unless a person supports the Hate Lists and then I don’t care.

Because the Hate Lists exist and Facebook tries to use them, I will always be on Facebook. That is not ever going to change no matter what laws the criminal regimes pass or however they lie and propagandize. I don’t particularly care about Facebook but if you are going to be a RAST, then I’m going to do the opposite of anything you want. I’ll also continue helping all the various groups that continually harm Facebook. I think it would be great if Facebook must deal with a lot more big government oversight and problems from that, so that is what I will continue to help occur. They need real problems.

Amerika loves its Hate Lists so I’ll help Amerika hate.

‘intimate images they created might be shared on public online platforms…posted by people “with no apparant intention of harm.” Instead, the CSAM gets shared to express outrage disgust, or “poor humor.” ‘

Perhaps Meta should block teens who post explicit selfies. Or better yet, notify their parents.
